TIPS TO REDUCE STRESS AND IMPROVE TIME MANAGEMENT

Stress is a common occurrence in today’s life; there will always be many things to do and never enough time. Stress is how your body responds naturally to challenges. A certain amount of stress is inevitable and is a useful part of life. In an academic setting, a healthy amount of stress motivates students to work harder, be focused and return to studies rather than doing something else.

However if students are too stressed, they cannot study effectively. High levels of stress or chronic stress can interfere with a student’s ability to learn, memorize, and earn good grades — as well as lead to poor physical, emotional and mental health. Effective time management can drastically reduce stress, especially academic stress. Time management is inversely proportional to stress. Successful time management will help you to become effective in completing tasks.

1.SET YOUR GOAL

Try setting a specific and realistic goal for yourself. Based on what goal you have set for yourself, you can start working on your time management skills. This will keep you focussed and motivated. You may start filling a goal-setting sheet

2.PLAN YOUR DAY

Although it may sometimes feel like a waste of time, you will actually gain huge time savings when you take a few minutes to plan out your day. Prepare a study time-table. Put the most important tasks at the top.

3.TAKE A SHORT BREAK

This helps one relax and concentrate longer. It is important that you keep some time for yourself. Practise relaxation exercises or listen to your favourite music or play with your pet or just sit quietly. These techniques really help you clear your mind and calm the rush inside

4.SET A TIME LIMIT

Identify your strengths and weaknesses in each subject. Accordingly, set your study time-table for each subject.

5.AVOID PROCRASTINATION

Unnecessarily delaying assignments until the last minute may lead to mental as well as physical stress. This may affect your daily life, i.e. affect the quality of your work, the quality of your sleep and even your mood.

6.SLEEP SOUNDLY FOR 7-8 HOUR AT NIGHT

It is essential to ensure your mind and body are fresh for the next day. Remember, lack of sound sleep may give rise to many mental and physical problems which may result in the increase of stress.

7.DO NOT NEGLECT YOUR HELTH

Health is wealth’-this is one of the greatest life lessons as you will understand as you grow older. Maintain your meals schedule. Do not skip your meals. Eat nutritious food. Avoid junk food.

Remember, the better organised and efficient you are, the better you shall feel about the tasks ahead. The better you get at time management, the more you will enjoy studying thus keeping stress at bay.
